KinderPark aims to define the structure and provide space for social-environmentally relevant science curricula that enables Detroit’s school children with opportunities of competing in the regional and national green-industries job-market while empowering their voice to advocate for the improvement of the city’s environmental quality.
In doing so, the westside of the
city shall be designated as Detroit’s Environment and Sustainable Educational
and Industrial Corridor where the City of Detroit, Detroit Public Schools
Community District, and the Detroit Regional Chamber partner in establishing
“Camp Rouge” Environmental and Sustainable Education Center in Rouge Park where
private and public sector curriculum partners operate K-10 programs ranging in
general awareness to critical-thinking skills that address human relationships
in and the conservation of our environments. In addition, a series of
“GreenWorks Schools” that introduce and train interested 11th & 12th
graders with employers in the green jobs sector will be implemented in the
city’s westside vacant school buildings. This is all an effort to enhance the
understanding and call to action of environmental concerns that Detroiters
experience on a daily basis and promote the inclusion of their voice and opinions
with what is being prepared and developed by the Planning Department, Office of
Sustainability, and private sector within the city.
