Matrix of Parts: Urban Facade
by Osaid Al Duiais

The matrix becomes a tool for the user to create a new and flexible way of living through stability, air flow, light, and open space.

In a new era rapidly changing the worlds daily routine situating
under one common goal enterprise creating a new social
order that turns to people and program as agents of change.
Rather than creating a direct ruleset under the role of a
heroic dignitary, the architect in this situation serves as the
facilitator, user-operator, and the visionary.

To test architectures capacity and promote activity and collective
enterprise, this project proposes a process by which to
build a new and flexible way of living. Creating an environment
that is not distinct to itself but able to grow using the
matrix. The matrix is designed to be a kit-of-parts for the user-
operator. The framework is used to orient the user in the
grid and the system is used to create an open and more flexible
way of living in a multi-story complex.

This new idea of elemental architecture through the façade is
a way of defining the spaces through a repetitive sequence of
design and using the method of zoning to distinguish spaces.
This creates a dense area that allows for a distribution of systems.
The façade is ultimately a maze that is deconstructed,
setting apart the faces from the inside and out, creating a
thickened layered façade. Ultimately the matrix becomes a
tool for the user to create a new and flexible way of living
through stability, air flow, light, and open space.
