Re-linking the Past
by Bilal Fawaz

Relinking the past through the redistribution of green spaces and their caretakers.

This project aims to relink to the past of Beirut through the study of three  pre-existing structures and the means through which modular housing can be deployed to accommodate a green housing situation in each of the three structures. The project targets Beirut’s unrepresented and neglected community represented by the farmers who were forced to relocated to neighboring villages due to the increase in land prices and students who cannot afford to rent apartments due to high rent prices due to the lack of existing dormitories. Beirut’s historic ‘green line’ is used as a launching point to locate the three sites in order to place these modules in relation of the existing structures thus aiming to setup the framework through which other supportive modular housing is deployed across Beirut.
